Welcome to Nomadic Mystic
A philosophical dreamer, I thrive on adventure and discovering new worlds, whether it's a new culture and country or new terrain in my psyche and soul. I seek my home amongst the seas, skies, and subconscious realm, an astral traveler who embraces the dualistic Sagittarian symbol the centaur: Navigating between the worlds of spirit and matter, lofty ideals and earthly experiences.
At Nomadic Mystic, I bridge my twin passions for inner and outer exploration. Inwardly, I find inspiration from psychology, literature, trance work, earth-based pagan traditions, mythology, and diverse psychospiritual practices. Outwardly, I've always had a love of exploring new countries, cultures, and ecosystems, especially through slow, immersive travel. On this blog, you'll find explorations of spiritual traditions and healing practices alongside waterfalls, museums, and other must-see destinations in the places I reside in or visit. As my approach to travel is one of self-development, I'll share how I put the magic in the mundane, using everyday experiences as insights into personal growth.
A bit of background: Growing up, I was always happiest when on family summer road trips, chasing the sun across the sky as we raced through the deserts of New Mexico, Nevada, or Utah to spend the season with family in Colorado. On the way to that land of rocky mountains, I reveled in the simplest of travel joys: Leaping into hotel pools lit up in hot pink and electric blue lights, pretending they were volcanoes. Scouting fresh soda and ice from the motel machine, the cubes dropping into the bucket with a clickety clack.
There was no shortage of adventure in Colorado. In the mountains, we hiked through vast meadows alongside meandering streams with the clearest of sparkling waters, glimpsing furtive foxes trotting at a distance. Fat chipmunks, far too used to tourists, ingratiated themselves to me for food by Bear Lake, where I walked under a canopy of aromatic pines. I plucked rainbow bright taffy from trays in Estes Park candy shops and gawked in awe at the infamous Stanley Hotel, inspiration for Kubrick's masterpiece The Shining.
Once an adult, I proceeded to travel as soon as I could: I studied philosophy and got my first taste of city nightlife living in Paris, then ventured to Southeast Asia after graduating college. I studied the harmonium, singing, and bamboo flute in the ancient city of Benares, India, and learned energy work in Pai, Thailand. Now, after a long travel break, I've moved to the magical city of Oaxaca de Juarez in Southern Mexico.
In my professional life, I'm a trauma-informed journalist who covers medicine and mental health including breakthrough research and evidence-based alternative medicine. On the flip side, I cover travel, culture, and lifestyle. I bring a reporter's eye and sense of discernment to all my explorations and my writing. I bring a genuine love of learning to almost everything I do. I hope that translates into an inspiring and entertaining experience for you here at Nomadic Mystic.
